Through our Community Impact initiative, a portion of Lavichelle inventory is dedicated to supporting people who are experiencing homelessness or temporary housing, providing personal-care essentials to organizations and community partners serving individuals and families during periods of housing instability.
Because having a safe place to call home should never determine whether someone has access to the simple comforts of personal care.
When Housing Is Uncertain, Care Becomes More Difficult
For many of us, caring for our skin is something we can take for granted: a warm shower, a clean towel, a private place to change, a place to keep personal-care essentials.
For someone experiencing homelessness or temporary housing, those simple routines can become considerably more difficult.
Research shows that people experiencing homelessness face a disproportionate burden of skin conditions. Contributing factors can include limited access to bathing and laundry facilities, prolonged exposure to heat, cold, rain and other environmental conditions, and challenges accessing consistent healthcare.
For people living with neuropathy or reduced sensation, these circumstances can be especially challenging. Reduced sensation may make it more difficult to notice irritation, minor injuries, or developing wounds, while prolonged walking, moisture, inadequate footwear, and limited opportunities for foot and skin care can further contribute to skin and foot problems.
And when access to clean towels, bathing facilities, laundry, and other hygiene resources is inconsistent, maintaining everyday skin care can become another barrier to comfort and well-being.
These challenges are not a reflection of someone's worth. They are a reflection of circumstances.
